Joe Kaplan holds an MM in Music Composition from the Bob Cole Conservatory at CSULB and is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. He works in the Seattle, WA area as an accompanist, composer, and music educator. His creative and pedagogical work is motivated by the aesthetic theory of Susanne Langer. In addition to presenting bespoke workshops that invite musicians of all ages, experiences, and skill levels to participate together in collaborative composition and improvisational process Joe is facile with music technology, having produced substantial projects in Logic Pro and MaxMSP. As a self-taught dancer through the medium of Contact Improv he brings a unified approach to all of his work that makes him well-suited for interdisciplinary projects.
is a dancer, educator, choreographer, musician and actor native to Los Angeles. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, Livya has performed and collaborated alongside various NYC based dance artists including Chia-Ying Kao, and currently tours with Max Pollak’s Rumbatap based in NYC. She has held workshops in Israel, Greece, Ghana and the UK. Since moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles, Livya has worked with LA based groups such as Sarah Elgart-Arrogant Elbow, Mojácar Flamenco, and continues to show her work in LA, New York, and abroad.
As a choreographer, Livya’s movement explores the meeting point between concert, commercial, and folkloric dance forms, with an emphasis on musicality and rhythmic accents. Livya’s passion for body percussion developed from her work as a vocalist and world percussionist, and has over recent years become an integral part of her contemporary dance practice. With her extensive background in the performing arts and cross cultural studies, her work draws upon the interconnectivity of language, storytelling, music, and dance.
